MENTIONS FOR STATUS UPDATES
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.16 update, we announced that WhatsApp was working a feature to privately mention contacts in status updates. Through this feature, users will be able to directly notify specific contacts by mentioning them in their status updates, ensuring that they always stay informed and engaged. Although this feature is still in development, it seems that WhatsApp is working on further refining this feature by introducing the ability to view mentions, as discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.11.15 from the Google Play Store.

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is currently working on a new interface to notify people when they are mentioned in a status update, set for release in a future update of the app. As previously reported, these mentions through status updates are always private. This means that other viewers of the status where users are mentioned won't be able to see who else is mentioned. This feature will add a new layer of privacy to status updates by ensuring that mentioned contacts remain confidential, as only they will receive notifications about the mentions and these are not visible within the status screen to other viewers.
In our opinion, this feature will bring significant advantages to the user experience when sharing content via status updates. It will ensure that important updates reach the intended contacts promptly, as they will receive notifications about the mentions, increasing engagement and responsiveness. In addition, we believe that maintaining privacy for these mentions protects user confidentiality, as only the mentioned contacts will be aware of their mention. This privacy measure will help users feel more secure in their communications, as it encourages users to mention their contacts without the concern of exposing these interactions to other viewers.
A feature to view mentions for status updates is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will share another article once we have new information about this feature.
