In February, we announced that WhatsApp was working on a new feature available in a future update of the app: a private newsletter tool. Thanks to this feature, it will be possible to create a broadcast chat that people can subscribe to. This chat will be accessible through the redesigned status tab, as mentioned in the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.5.8 update. The feature is still in development but thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.7.17 update available on the Play Store, we discovered how to create a newsletter:

As you can see in this screenshot, a newsletter needs a name and a description. However, we do not exclude that this section may not be completed due to potential missing fields, such as the ability to choose a username for the newsletter, as we have already announced in our first article about this feature. After creating a newsletter, it will be visible within the status tab and other people can join it by using a newsletter invite link or entering the username within WhatsApp.

We would like to remind you that newsletters will be optional, meaning that you can choose not to join any newsletter, and WhatsApp will not suggest any to you as there are no algorithmic recommendations. In addition, this feature doesn’t pivot to a social network as it is just an extension of private messaging and it is separate from your chats, which will continue to be end-to-end encrypted.

The ability to create a newsletter is under development and it will be released in a future update of the app. We will keep you posted in the event we have further details to share with you.
