STATUS UPDATES FILTER

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.24.11 update, we announced that WhatsApp was restoring the muted status section within the Updates tab for those users who do not follow any channels. This enhancement benefits users who don't follow any channels, simplifying the process of accessing muted status updates without the need to navigate to a separate section through the three-dot menu. WhatsApp is also exploring additional features for status updates, including the introduction of a vertical list, even for those users who follow channels. In particular, after installing the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.25.3 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out a feature to filter status updates!

As you can see in this screenshot, some beta testers may experiment with a new "See all" button to quickly see a vertical list of their status updates. In this section, some beta testers can access four filters that better categorize their status updates:

  1. All: this filter displays all the status updates from your contacts. It provides users with a feature to quickly catch up on everything their contacts have posted without missing any updates.
  2. Recent: this filter allows users to focus on displaying the most recent status updates. This is particularly beneficial when they want to see the latest status updates from their contacts without scrolling through older updates.
  3. Viewed: it is designed to show status updates that have been already viewed, and it helps users in keeping track of the content they have previously seen.
  4. Muted: it is specifically useful for managing and viewing the list of muted status updates. In fact, this filter allows users to check status muted updates without these updates dominating their recent status updates feed, providing a more focused viewing experience.

In our opinion, the introduction of four new filters for status updates brings several advantages to users, enhancing their overall experience. Users now have better control over the content they wish to see by selecting the specific filter that suits their current preferences. In the past, many users asked to restore the previous interface in the status updates tab, which was redesigned with the introduction of channels. In addressing this feedback, the introduction of filters finally allows users to revert to a more familiar and user-friendly vertical list format for status updates.

The feature to filter and view status updates in a vertical list is available to some beta testers who install the latest WhatsApp beta for Android update from the Google Play Store, and it is rolling out to even more people over the coming weeks.
