GROUP CHAT EVENTS

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.17.7 update, we announced a new feature available to some beta testers: scheduled calls. With this feature, WhatsApp provides users with a new tool to help them plan and coordinate discussions in group chats, by reducing the risk of missed or late calls. However, WhatsApp has been focused on developing other new features that could help users create reminders for specific occasions. Specifically, thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.21.12 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a new chat events feature!

As you can see in this screenshot, there will be a new action within the chat share menu that includes an events shortcut, for a future update of the app. With this feature, users can create events with a specific name and choose when they want to be notified in the conversation. This can be especially useful for planning and coordinating various activities within group chats or simply staying organized with personal reminders. It's important to note that these message events will be end-to-end encrypted: this means that only the people in the conversation can review them. In addition, this feature appears to be limited to community group chats, at the moment. Once creating an event, it will automatically be added to the conversation, and everyone will have to update WhatsApp to the most recent version to see and accept the new group invite event.

In our opinion, this feature will allow users to easily plan and coordinate events directly within their conversations. This means that it will be possible to create an event with all the relevant details like the event name, date, time, and location within a group chat. In addition, we can consider this feature as a built-in reminder system: users can set event reminders, ensuring that all group participants receive notifications at the specified time by avoiding missing important events or appointments. As a result, it's evident that WhatsApp is dedicated to enhancing user experience and functionality through their continuous development of new features like this one, in comparison to their past efforts.

The feature to create group chat events is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. As always, we will publish a new article when we have further information to share with you.
