CHAT TRANSFER
In July, WhatsApp released the ability to move chats from Android to iOS by using the Move to iOS app: thanks to this feature, user can finally switch to a different phone without losing their chat history.
In the meantime, WhatsApp is always looking for new ways to evolve by improving the user experience, and it looks like another option for the chat history is in development: WhatsApp is working on a new chat transfer option to easily move the chat history to a new Android device, for a future update of the app.
As you can see in this screenshot, the option will be visible within WhatsApp Settings > Chats in the future: it will allow users to easily migrate their chat history from the phone to another Android device so they may not need to back up their chat history on Google Drive before switching to a new device. Instead, they may simply use the new chat transfer option to transfer all of their conversations to their new phone in the future.
While this feature will be a convenient way to transfer your chat history to a new phone, it's still important to regularly back up your chats on Google Drive: this way, you can still recover your chats if something happens to your phone. But as a benefit, we think the chat transfer feature can be especially useful for quickly switching to a new Android phone without the need for updating the backup on the cloud.
WhatsApp is developing the chat transfer option for a future update of the app. As always, we don't know when it will be released to users but we're going to publish an additional article when we have more details to share with you.
