In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.7.4 update, we reported that WhatsApp was developing a redesigned interface for introducing disappearing messages, along with a new feature allowing users to keep or undo a kept message. This feature enables users to preserve specific disappearing messages, preventing them from expiring automatically. Following the release of the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.1.11 on the Play Store, we've uncovered further developments related to this functionality.
As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp is actively working on informing users about the ability to keep disappearing messages within chats. The app now clarifies that while messages in disappearing chats still vanish after their set expiration time, kept messages will remain visible—unless manually undone. It's important to note that any participant in the conversation can choose to keep a disappearing message or undo that action via the message options menu. However, if a kept message is undone, it will be immediately and permanently deleted for everyone in the chat, with no possibility of recovery.
The ability to keep a disappearing message in order to prevent its expiration is under development and it will be released in a future update of the app.
