KEPT MESSAGES
In the past, we already talked about a new feature under development that lets users save some messages in a certain situation: these messages are called kept messages. When a disappearing message is expired, it is automatically deleted from the chat but what happens when you wanted to save that message? In this case, any user in the conversation can decide to keep it for everyone: so kept messages are simply disappearing messages but without an expiration. Since everyone can decide to keep a disappearing message in the conversation regardless of its expiration, they can also decide to unkeep it later so the message has an expiration again: removing it from kept messages is useful when you don't want the disappearing message being kept in the chat.
The feature is still under development but in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.20.3 update but the company is now working on managing some situations while keeping messages:
As you can see in this screenshot, an alert shows up when it is not possible to keep a disappearing message: in this case, the author of the disappearing message has removed the message from kept messages so no one else in the conversation can keep it again. If you are able to keep a message, it is saved like a "starred message" but it is located in a different section within chat info called kept messages.
This feature is under development and it will be released at a later date. As always, we will keep you up to date when there is news about this feature.
