CAPTION VIEW
Last year, we have published an article explaining that WhatsApp was working on a feature that let users edit recipients before sending media thanks to a new caption view. Today, WhatsApp is releasing the new caption view to some beta testers!
As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp has redesigned the caption view, in particular highlighting the recipients. What's the difference? You could not select different recipients when sending a media from a chat, since this was only possible when using the camera tab. If you are sending a photo, video, or GIF, to contact right within their chat thread after the new update, you can now choose other people as recipients (including status updates), even if you did not take the photo from the camera tab. In addition, WhatsApp has also redesigned the way you choose the audience for your status updates. How? In the past, it was already possible to change who can see your status updates after taking a photo from the camera tab, and in this case, the privacy settings section for status updates showed up: after the update, WhatsApp is now presenting a modal view where the user can quickly choose a different audience for their status update.
Why is WhatsApp introducing these changes? WhatsApp is planning to replace the camera tab with the communities tab in a future update of the app, so the company is making it easier to send media to additional recipients without using the camera tab, since it will be removed.
This feature has been rolled out to certain beta testers and more activations are planned at a later date.
