WhatsApp has just submitted a new update through the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the version up to 2.20.166.
What’s new in this update? Discover all details below!
- The 30 seconds of duration is back for videos sent to status updates.
- If you don’t see the update on the Play Store, please be patient until Google will roll out for you (probably according to WhatsApp preferences).
Two months ago, WhatsApp has decided to roll out a new change for status updates, allowing only videos with 15 seconds of duration:
ANNOUNCEMENT:
You can no longer send videos to WhatsApp Status if they are longer than 16 seconds: only videos having a duration of 15 seconds will be allowed.
This is happening in India and it's probably an initiative to reduce the traffic on the server infrastructures.— WABetaInfo (@WABetaInfo) March 28, 2020
As mentioned in the tweet, this change was implemented only in India, and it was probably an initiative to reduce the traffic on the server infrastructures. It must be said that it could also considered a move to reduce the traffic for fake news.
Today, with the 2.20.166 beta update, WhatsApp is restoring the old 30 seconds limit. The change is available when you update to this beta, but it might be released for old versions too as server-side update, and it requires some time to be applied for every user.
It’s recommended to update if you want to receive the feature quickly.
