WhatsApp has recently submitted a new update through the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the version up to 2.19.289.
This update brings a new feature that’s under development on both WhatsApp for Android and iOS.
- The Group Privacy Blacklist feature is not available yet.
- WhatsApp is working very hard on the feature in the recent few updates, in order to ensure the best bug-free experience for you, before the release for everyone.
- There is no issue if you have updated your WhatsApp beta version and it’s not visible for you, seen that it’s under development.
- We have no details about when the feature will be released for everyone. So, for this reason, we invite you to be patient.
WhatsApp was working on new Group Privacy Settings. Configuring this setting, the user could choose who can add him to groups. When the admin isn’t able to add the user to the group, the user will privately receive the invite.
WhatsApp has rolled out the feature partially, supposedly for Indian Users:

Today WhatsApp is starting to work again on the feature, replacing the Nobody option with a Blacklist feature (under development and not available yet)!
Our idea is that WhatsApp will roll out Group Privacy Settings worldwide when the Blacklist feature will be ready.
But what’s the Blacklist feature? Basically it’s a My Contacts Except.. option for Groups:
This change is not effective yet. When WhatsApp will enable the feature for everyone, the user can decide to switch to the new Blacklist feature, that replaces Nobody with My Contacts Except...
Attention: if you will decide to use to the Blacklist feature, you won’t be able to switch back to Nobody. We don’t know if they will decide to keep Nobody in future, but actually their plan is different.
If you hate to be added in groups without your consent, we recommend to NOT use the Blacklist setting and to immediately switch to Nobody if you don’t use it yet.
If you will use the Blacklist feature (so selecting My Contacts Except..), you won’t be able to switch back to the old setting: the only way to use Nobody again is to manually select all your contacts into My Contacts Except..
WhatsApp is working on the same feature for the iOS app too (it’s under development and it’s not available yet):
Note that the Nobody setting will be dismissed for the Group Privacy Settings only. Last Seen, Profile Picture and About will continue to offer the Nobody option.
We remember that new Group Privacy Settings aren’t available worldwide. WhatsApp has announced this feature in a blog post (April 3, 2019) writing that “These new privacy settings will begin rolling out to some users starting today and will be available worldwide in the coming weeks to those using the latest version of WhatsApp’. It’s been six months but WhatsApp didn’t release it worldwide yet.
