Concept reveals a countdown feature to prevent accidental calls on WhatsApp

A concept is one of the best ways to share feedback about a new feature on WhatsApp beta for Android, iOS, and Desktop. Some time ago, we shared a concept about an enhanced feature to manage WhatsApp storage and we would like to share our new concept with you today: a countdown feature to prevent accidental calls on WhatsApp!

Name of the concept? Call countdown
Availability? This feature is not available because it is a concept.
I've installed the latest update of WhatsApp beta but I don't see this feature. Why? Unfortunately, this feature is a concept made by WABetaInfo so it is not a real WhatsApp feature but we hope to see it implemented in the future.

CALL COUNTDOWN

It must surely have happened to anyone to place a WhatsApp call by mistake: it mainly happens when the user taps the voice or video call button within a conversation without the real intention to call the contact. Over the years, a lot of users requested to WhatsApp implement a confirmation alert: in reality, it is already available but it only shows up on the first attempt to place a WhatsApp call. In fact, it would be annoying to tap twice to perform an action so tap the call button and "yes" within the confirmation alert every time you want to start a WhatsApp call. So we decided to create a concept for a new feature on WhatsApp that we named "call countdown":

As you can see in this screenshot, a countdown starts every time we place a WhatsApp call: when the countdown ends, WhatsApp can finally place the call. Since we understand it would also be annoying to wait for 3 seconds in order to place the call, there may be some new ways to force WhatsApp to immediately start the call without waiting for the countdown: a solution would be, for example, when you raise the device to your ear and WhatsApp detects it thanks to the proximity sensor, WhatsApp doesn't wait for the countdown to reach zero anymore and the app immediately places the call. Thanks to the countdown, you can immediately close the call when you placed it by mistake without notifying the recipient.

As we said above, this is a concept, unfortunately, so it’s not a real WhatsApp feature planned to be developed for a future update of the app. Note that, since a concept is the best way to suggest new features for the future, we hope to see this feature implemented on WhatsApp at a later date.
If we have more details to share with you, there will be a new article on this website.
