CHAT MEDIA HUB

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.13.4 update, we announced that a recent media feature for community group chats was under development. This update was designed to introduce a dedicated section where community members can easily browse all recent media shared across their group chats. The feature aims to display images, videos, GIFs, documents, and links in a centralized location, allowing users to quickly access shared content without needing to search through individual chats. Additionally, it provides information about the size of multimedia files, helping users manage their device storage more effectively by identifying large files that may need to be deleted. Although this feature is still in development for the mobile app, WhatsApp is also considering introducing a similar media management system for the web client that would extend to all chats, not just community groups. Following the recent updates for WhatsApp Web beta, we discovered that WhatsApp is currently working on a centralized chat media hub feature for the web client!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a feature that will allow users to access all media shared across every chat in one place, scheduled for release in a future update. This new media hub will be accessible through a dedicated entry point located in the sidebar of the web client, making it easier for users to find and open it at any time. Once inside this hub, users will be able to browse all images, videos, and GIFs shared across their chats without having to open each individual conversation. Beyond just multimedia, the hub will also display all documents and links shared in chats, providing a comprehensive overview of shared content.

For documents and links, the media hub will show additional details directly in the list, such as the name of the contact who shared the item and the date it was sent, helping users quickly identify the context of each file. Additionally, the media hub will support caption-based search and offer sorting options that let users organize content by most recent, oldest first, or largest file first, making it easier to locate specific files. A multi-select button will also be available, enabling users to select multiple items at once. This will allow for bulk actions such as deleting, downloading, or forwarding selected items.

This feature will be particularly useful in situations where a user remembers sending or receiving an image but cannot recall the exact chat it was shared in. Instead of manually opening multiple conversations and scrolling through message histories, users can simply consult this centralized hub to find all images in one convenient place. The media hub will also simplify managing storage by grouping all shared media and documents, allowing users to quickly review and delete unwanted or large files to free up storage. This centralized approach aims to streamline access to shared media across WhatsApp, helping users stay organized and quickly locate everything from memorable photos in family chats to important documents in work groups.

A centralized chat media hub feature is under development and it will be available in a future update of the web client. We will share more information about this feature in an upcoming article as additional details become available.
